Best way to get from JFK to Greenwich Village (9th & University): shuttle or public transit?

Ill be coming into JFK at 5am on a red eye and I want to get into my apartment as quickly as possible. I’m traveling by myself so I’d like the safest mode of transportation as I’m not very city savvy. Would it be better to take a shuttle? I’ve taken the metro by myself in Spain, England and France but for some reason NYC intimidates me!

Are the apartments nice and do all the bedrooms have windows and how is the roomate matching and how is the area and how is the apartment complex!!??? and how are the apartment like the people who stay thre is it a lot of parties is it safe are the people snobby??
